The target may avoid the damage if they succeed in an opposed strength check. The hand is treated as if it has a strength of 43 (+16 to strength check) for purposes of the opposed strength check. Creatures that are immune to mind spells may not be affected by the stunning effect of the hand, however they will still take damage if they do not succeed on their opposed strength checks.
