Low Levels: The calm before the storm.

  • Levels 1 to 3
    • Absolutely no penalties.
    • No chance at losing a Soul Strand.
    • No statistics loss.
    • No gold loss.

Soul Strands: When all is said and done.

“...and the Soul Mother's thirst was quenched momentarily as the writhing cries called out from Gotak's entirely consumed soul...”

  • When you die you have a chance at losing a Soul Strand.
  • The chance of losing a Soul Strand is as follows:
    • Levels 1-3: Automatic success – no chance of Soul Strand loss
    • Levels 4-20: DC = level / 2
    • Levels 21+: DC = 10 + ((level – 20) / 4) (max. of 15% at Level 40)
  • For example a Level 8 Wizard has a 4% chance of losing a Soul Strand when dying.
  • Once you lose 10 Soul Strands you will be permanently dead.
  • A Bonus Feat for anyone above Level 20, the Soul Mother's Defense can be taken to raise the number of Soul Strands you can lose to 15 instead of 10.
  • Yes the code is random and working properly. Sorry your luck is not. Be grateful if it is.

Statistics Penalties:     “...the anguish and torment over Enyela's recent passing haunted her mind, body and soul as she looked to regain the being she once was...”

  • If you are resurrected, you will have a -1 to all your Ability Scores (Strength, Dexterity etc) for up to five minutes, until you rest after being told you can rest and reflect a final time.
  • If you are raised, you will have a -2 to all your Ability Scores (Strength, Dexterity etc) for between ten and fifteen minutes, until you rest after being told you can rest and reflect a final time.
  • If you respawn, you will have a -4 to all your Ability Scores (Strength, Dexterity etc) for Character's Level Times five minutes, until you rest after being told you can rest and reflect a final time.
  • The maximum length of time a character will spend recovering from death is one real life hour.
  • Praying at your grave will return you to normal.
  • If you die before you retrieve your original grave, a new grave will not be created, you must go the original one.
  • If your grave exists and you die again but you are Resurrected or Raised your grave will be destroyed.
  • If you logout and return more than 10 hours later, the effects will wear off after 5 minutes at which time you can rest to return to normal.
  • Every five minutes you will reflect upon your recent death until the number reaches 0 at which time you can rest to wear off the effects.
  • There is also an option to forfeit any chance at recovery beside waiting it out by returning to your grave through your bindstone.
  • Reflections are not reset when you level

Death While Recovery:

    “...still satiated from the recent devouring of the elf's soul, the Soul Mother relished a second helping and consumed Arendir's foundation once more...”

  • If you have not recovered from your last death before you die again and you respawn you will lose 5% of the XP it takes to level up at your level.
  • If you have not recovered from your last death before you die again and you have Raise Dead cast upon you, you will lose 3% of the XP it takes to level up at your level.
  • If you have not recovered from your last death before you die again and you have Resurrection cast upon you, you will lose 1% of the XP it takes to level up at your level.

Three Deaths:

    “...the continued and repeating anguish of death over such a short span of time caused Sordarir to lose a part of his being...”

  • If you die 3 times in Your PC Level * 15 minutes, you will force respawn and lose 10% of the XP needed to level.
  • For example if a level 12 dies 3 times in 180 (12 times 15) minutes, he will lose 32,000xp (10% of 320,000) and forcibly respawn.
  • If you are forced to respawn, your window is reset.
  • Levelling does not reset the window, nor does it reset the number of deaths.

Gold Loss:

    “...and they all paid their toll as their bodies reformed upon the location they were bound, their beings lost in the depths of the dungeons...”

  • Respawning, Getting Raised or Resurrected will cost the PC 1/2 of their gold they currently are carrying

Penalties for the one who Raises:

    “...with Destro's last soul stone used in the previous crypt, Noix gave up a part of his soul to return his dear friend to the planes of life...”

  • If you Resurrect a follower of a god whom your deity has Enemy feelings, regardless if they have a stone or not, you will lose 10000xp.
  • If you Raise Dead a follower of a god whom your deity has Enemy feelings, regardless if they have a stone or not, you will lose 5000xp
  • If you Resurrect a follower of a god whom your deity has Unfriendly feelings, if they do not have a soul stone, you will lose 8000xp
  • If you Raise Dead a follower of a god whom your deity has Unfriendly feelings, if they do not have a soul stone, you will lose 4000xp
  • If you Resurrect a follower of a god whom your deity has Neutral feelings, if they do not have a soul stone, you will lose 5000xp
  • If you Raise Dead a follower of a god whom your deity has Neutral feelings, if they do not have a soul stone, you will lose 2500xp
  • If you Resurrect a follower of a god whom your deity has Friendly feelings, if they do not have a soul stone, you will lose 3000xp
  • If you Raise Dead a follower of a god whom your deity has Friendly feelings, if they do not have a soul stone, you will lose 1500xp
  • If you Resurrect or Raise Dead a follower of a god whom your deity is Allied, regardless if they have a stone or not, you will not lose xp.

If the dead character does not have a deity, the penalties apply as if the Deity were Neutral feeling.

Penalties Chart for the one who Raises:

The following chart provides an easy lookup for these rules. The "Relation" column is the relationship between the castor's Deity and the corpse's Deity. The "Soul Stone" column indicates when the "Resurrect" and/or "Raise Dead" penalties apply. The n-a's in the "Soul Stone" column indicate that it doesn't matter if the corpse has a soul stone or not.
