Ice melt that feeds the channel between Krashin and Mistone creates undertows and currents in warmer months that have made this stretch of water difficult to navigate during the spring melt. When the seawater combines with the runoff from the iron rich soils of Krashin, the water turns a deep red. For the last two weeks of the melt, this region of the sea actually resembles nothing so much as raspberry juice.
