Grimal kittens lead a rather harsh life. A few weeks after being born, they are taught how to rely on themselves; some young ones die before they can do so.

Grimals that survive childhood are independent before their first decade. They will still accompany their parents, but the parental bond is very loose. Once grimal parents decide their children can defend themselves and provide for their own well-being, they part their ways and seldom see each other.

This disconnected type of upbringing has marked the grimal race as cruel at times; yet, it is their firm belief that only through self-reliance shall they remain strong in their ways.
