The subterranean races (Dark Elf, Deep Gnome and Deep Dwarf) are not accustomed to the sun as the surface races are. Consequently, they are sensitive to the brightness and intensity of the sun which adversely affects them.
Characters of races of the Deep suffer a -1 penalty to attack rolls in bright sunlight or within the radius of a Light spell.
