Forest of Drakes: History and Rumors

The forest itself is home to a great number of creatures including fey such as pixies, sylphs and water nymphs. These creatures tend to dwell in the lower reaches of the forest. It is higher up, in the mighty branches of the trees, that drakes of various types make their home. These creatures tend to build their nests in hollowed out sections of the trees far above the ground. Every creature in the forest knows that if they ascend above a certain level in the forest they will most likely end up as food for the ever hungry drakes. Even those who keep to the ground or lower branches of the oak trees are always at some risk, here as the drakes often descend into the lower reaches of the forest seeking more prey to feast upon.

Over the last few centuries the numbers of the drakes have started to rise. Though the cause for the increase in population is unknown, many have marked the change as it has meant that the drakes have begun attacking the centaurs that used to travel and hunt in the woods. Over time, the centaurs have learned to avoid the forest and it is rare to see one within the borders of the woods now. Even many of the fey creatures who dwell among the trees are very careful to ensure that they are not caught out in the open when the drakes are hunting.
