Thoraz: History and Rumors

Thoraz, as the seat of the kingdom, sees its fair share of parades of important people. As in wartime, those in power must be well-informed and familiar with anything which affects the kingdom. There are monthly meetings between the Naazdah uoghs and their aids, as well as other pertinent members of the military. Despite the number of important talks that take place within its limits, the city is usually eerily quiet, as if all sounds of life were being policed. Perhaps it is desire to hear any sounds from outside or an announcement heralding victory that keeps the town so silent.

Established in 1329, Thoraz is the youngest of the dwarven cities on the island. Like all youth, Thoraz navigated a troubled path for many years, and still faces many challenges.

In 1390, a terrible earthbend disrupted the deepest portion of the city and exposed a series of natural caverns that were being used by the Deep dwarves. Only a month later, Deep dwarves began their war against the citizens of Thoraz, using this new and easily accessible front to their advantage. To date, the invaders have never managed to gain a foothold, but the threat of invasion is a constant concern for the residents in the town. Failure to report a potential sighting of a Deep dwarf, even if it proves false, can result in conscription into the forward lines; placement is at the discretion of the Naazdah uogh.

Before the earthbend and the complications it brought to Thoraz, a small portion of the town above the surface was fairly active. It was populated by some of the non-dwarven who reside on the island. However, when the capital was moved, it was suggested by the administration that it would be better if those who were not dwarves moved along to some other town. It was also hinted that the other town be someplace outside of Rhugal's Realm. As such, the structures above ground are mostly abandoned, and the buildings are being cannibalized for useful parts and materials for the expansion taking place below.
