<span class="DROPCAP">W</span>ater flows into this natural bowl-shaped valley, forming a large and peaceful looking lake. At the center of the lake is an island where an ancient circle of black basalt obelisks surround an oval basalt altar. The base of the island they rest upon is hard basalt that centuries of water flowing around has hardly worn. The lake is quite deep with a fairly swift current that flows around each side of the island before surfacing near the southern end of the valley where it pours over an edge and forms a series of steep cascades as the river continues its journey south.
