However it is well known that when a powerful mage becomes a lich, he or she forsakes the flesh along with life, and what remains of the body is usually naught but bones. With all things there are occasional exceptions, though, and one lich--who in life had been a woman by the name of Farile Whipwind-- decided to break with tradition.

Almost everything about the power a lich could acquire in unlife attracted Farile Whipwind enough to make it worth the sacrifices, and eventually she took herself through the rituals needed for the ghastly transformation. When it was done she was satisfied with her new powers but rather less so by her appearance, and Farile, ever the vain mage--aren't they all?--refused to live out eternity in the skeletal form she was forced to take. Instead, she decided to take a souvenir of her old life with her; she took the skin from her body as she was transformed into a lich and had it formed into a robe.
