Lich Skin

The process of becoming a lich is never a particularly pleasant one, and certainly not something you would care to be reminded of I can imagine. However it is well known that when a powerful mage becomes a lich, he or she forsakes the flesh along with life, and what remains of the body is usually naught but bones. With all things there are occasional exceptions, though, and one lich--who in life had been a woman by the name of Farile Whipwind-- decided to break with tradition.

Almost everything about the power a lich could acquire in unlife attracted Farile Whipwind enough to make it worth the sacrifices, and eventually she took herself through the rituals needed for the ghastly transformation. When it was done she was satisfied with her new powers but rather less so by her appearance, and Farile, ever the vain mage--aren't they all?--refused to live out eternity in the skeletal form she was forced to take. Instead, she decided to take a souvenir of her old life with her; she took the skin from her body as she was transformed into a lich and had it formed into a robe.

The skin robe fit over Farile's whole body, disguising--albeit badly--her bony form. Spurred by her vanity, there was never a time Farile did not wear the skin robe, save when she was improving upon it to make it even more realistic. She had hair sewn into the robe, and even eyelashes and brows. In dark light or to someone with poor vision, Farile could almost pass as human again. For many years, Farile spent most of her time enchanting the robe to improve her looks. Upon completion, whoever was to don the robe would be perceived as the true visage of feminine beauty.

Ironically, despite no longer fearing old age or natural death, Farile never got a chance to enjoy her semblance of eternal youth and beauty. Shortly after she finished the robe she met an untimely end when an adventuring party raided her tower. Most unfortunate it was that the majority of the party turned out to be female. Nothing is known of exactly what happened after Farile was abolished, but the lich skin robe went missing from the tower that day.

Little has been heard of the artifact since Farile's second death, but stories still place it in the world from time to time. One such tale noted that something wearing the shape of a siren was said to hunt the Hallowlight Forest. This is the last known sighting of Lich Skin.
