Faction Reputation

Faction Reputation

Note: This system is in Alpha development.

Description

"Faction Reputation," or FacRep, is exactly what the name suggests. It represents how well you are liked or disliked by a given faction. Because every faction has enemies and allies, and as you support one faction, you inevitably aid or harm another. So choose your allies carefully. Because their enemies are now your enemies.

FacRep Tokens

Currently, Faction Reputation (FacRep) is represented in-game by tokens. The number of tokens your character possesses is a literal measure of the reputation your character has with the faction associated with those tokens, but each token also influences reputation with other factions, negatively or positively. For example, gaining reputation with the Toranite faction would automatically reduce your character's reputation with Branderbackian faction since the deities Toran and Branderback are enemies. As factions are defined for the FacRep system, what each token represents will be outlined for that faction.

Scale

FacRep works on a scale from -100 to 100. Technically, it is possible to have more than a hundred tokens, but at this time the benefits associated with a faction do not increase beyond a reputation of 100. Generally, your character will start at 0 with any given faction. Because each token counts as both an increase in reputation with one faction and a decrease with others, some tokens will effectively cancel each other out. Going back to our earlier example of Toran and Branderback, let's say you have 70 Toranite tokens meaning you have a reputation of +70 with the Toranite faith. This also means that you have a -70 reputation with the Branderbackian faction. Later, however, you acquire 10 Branderbackian tokens. Now, instead of +70 FacRep with the Toranites and +10 FacRep with the Branderbackians, you actually have +60 Toranite FacRep and -60 Branderbackian FacRep. This is because those ten Branderbackian tokens effectively cancelled out ten of your Toranite tokens.

How to Acquire Tokens

In the future, we hope to have IG scripted systems through which you can acquire tokens, but for now, tokens can be obtained via story quests run by a game master or periodic FacRep events and treasure hunts.

Rewards

As that reputation increases, your character can gain access to special treasure, the ability to purchase relevant CNR and themed outfits, unlock Prestige Classes, and even titles and ranks within the faction. Going below zero with a faction, however, will have the opposite effect, reducing access to certain areas or resources controlled by the faction with whom you have a negative reputation. Rewards will be distributed across ten tiers, meaning that you will need 10 tokens to reach the next tier, to a maximum of 100 tokens to reach the tenth tier, Tier X. Tiers can be both gained and lost, as increasing FacRep in one faction can cost you FacRep in another. When the Toranite FacRep was reduced from 70 to 60 by the Branderbackian tokens in the prior example, the character also lost access to the Tier VII benefit for the Toranite faction.
