The Trawler is the most commonly used coastal water fishing vessel found across Layonara. Its design has remained relatively unchanged for centuries and these ships remain as versatile and as useful as ever. While variations in appearance and rigging styles can be seen between different nations, these ships are as ubiquitous as seagulls. Large numbers of these boats can be seen operating in fleets out of most port cities around the world. They are very stable craft, and are also fairly reliable and can store large catches in their holds. They are generally equipped with heavy lengths of nets and can maneuver in coastal waters with relative ease.

The downside to the Trawlers is that these vessels can suffer in heavy weather, and can easily overturn when the wind grows stronger. Fishermen on these vessels are therefore very mindful of the weather and it is not unusual to see fishing fleets made up of these vessels suddenly turn as one and head for port as soon as it becomes clear that the weather is turning bad.
