The lake gets its name from the way its surface is constantly rippled and hence distorts anything it reflects. A natural breeding place for the abundant varieties of fish that swim up and down the Lazy River, this broad lake is a veritable treasure trove of nature and wildlife. It is a popular fishing spot for the brownies traveling south from Axis Lake along the Lazy River.

Once a year the brownie clans have a canoe race from Axis Lake to the Lake of Distortion and the place becomes a giant picnic ground for several days.
