The vast majority of the population is part of the standing army of Rhugal's Realm. Few soldiers live long lives, preferring instead to take out as many enemies as Vorax will put in their reach during battles. Those who remain behind in battle support the army in as many ways as they can, from the creation of armors and weapons to the creation of new lives--dwarves who will ultimately repopulate the army. All soldiers of Rhugal's Realm must attend five years of academy training. Brunger Rhugal was a firm believer that any portion of the army, no matter how small, could make a difference. Therefore, he wanted all of his troops to be educated and to understand why orders were given. The War Academy of Metal was first established as a training camp to teach the clans to work in unison and to familiarize the army as a whole with the tactics that would be employed in the battles. Over the years, it evolved into a full-fledged War Academy. The final touch came in 1336, when a mandatory history class was included during the final year of preparation. As each city was carved out in the kingdom, another War Academy was added. The War Academy of Metal led the way, but each Academy established a norm and weeded out those not fit for the hard, battle-filled lives that are a reality of Rhugal's Realm.

Those unfit for the battlefield often found other ways to contribute to the cause. The Church of Vorax opened a training facility for combat medics. Of course, there is always a need for skilled craftsmen and women to support the troops who need food, armor, weapons, and other items. Once the Dorandites established themselves within the Realm, they developed a system of apprenticeship to fill the increasing need for supplies.
