Castle Succession: Defenses

Housed in barracks in the left wing are the Castle Guards, an elite group of absolutely loyal and highly trained men and women. And while magic is illegal elsewhere in the kingdom, magical defenses are everywhere around the castle. Those with sensitivity to magic will feel different alarms triggering every 10 steps. Unless one is specialized to a high degree in both the arcane and the nature and removal of traps, sneaking up on the castle denizens is next to impossible. As well, there are several trained mages living there, and they are willing and able to use their deadly spells to protect their benefactors.

As a last resort in an attack, someone might take shelter in the dungeons. While being locked in a cage is not desirable, it does offer a solid iron door between them and you.
