Critical Hit

A critical hit is a devastating attack that generates more damage than normal.

Critical chances are determined by your Attack Roll & the Threat range of your weapon (critical range generally looks like 19-20, 18-20, etc. -- is omitted if you can only critical on a 20 roll). You must score a successful hit within the critical range for a critical chance to occur. Once you score the hit, you must make a Threat roll to determine if your critical chance succeeds. On success, the critical modifier multiplies the damage you dealt for a hit (the multiplier looks like x2, x3, x4). The damages are multiplied separately then added together, meaning your physical damage is taken through the modifier, then the damage dealt through elemental/magical (fire, cold, divine), and then the two results are added up. Sneak Attack damage is not multiplied on criticals; it is only added to the end result.

Feats and Spells that modify criticals include:

  • Keen Edge
  • Improved Critical
  • Overwhelming Critical
  • Devastating Critical

Weapon Masters have the ability to modify their critical potential through feats. They can increase the range of their criticals as well as increase the modifier. These feats are Increased Multiplier and Ki Critical.

Some creatures have immunity to criticals and will never receive the extra damage. These creatures include Golems (e.g., Iron, Demonflesh), Undead (e.g., Vampires, Risen Lords, Pale Masters), and Elementals (Water, Earth).
