As usual, a local sitchu governs the land in the name of the Mido of Bilkan. A weekly meeting of several key members of the village is held in the local tavern, the Fire in the Sky, where the sitchu prompts for any concerns or issues to be raised to his attention.

Farming is of key importance to Hiso, and the continuation of this is paramount because food is its chief export. The village still maintains several older laws no longer practiced in other parts of the country, mainly in the context of possessions of livestock and crops since they hold such particular value here.

Only recently, a farmer was forced to pay compensation to another farmer when one of his cows got loose from its field and wandered into his neighbor's lands. Whether the farmer was aware this cow had the Red Fever or not is uncertain, but he was forced to pay full price to his neighbor for each cow that died from the disease.
