Hoof Encampment: Government and Politics

The Grovemaster leads the herd. Beneath him there are eight to ten Grovetenders, elders who advise him on important matters. These elders are all selected, one from each of the clans. There is also a Grovewarden who is responsible for the defense of the island. It is generally accepted that the term Grove in centaur speech is also an analogy for the "herd" and that the Grove of Modrigon is directly related to the herd itself. Thus, the centaurs' greatest fear is that if they fail to properly honor and respect the Grove they will wither and die. The Grove of Modrigon is the heart of the herd's politics and communal life.
