The Reconnoiters are better known as Recons, and are common throughout the world. The Recon is a ship that is versatile and affordable to many nations and organizations unable to afford larger class ships. A Recon is used as a light to medium type merchant vessel or a light naval vessel, and is also favored by pirates and smugglers.

Depending on how the ship is equipped, it can either be outfitted for cargo or as a light naval vessel with catapults and ballistae, or even a combination of the two while still retaining a healthy top speed. As a naval ship, it has placements for up to sixteen ranged weapons. Due to these features, Recons are also sought after by those with nefarious designs.
 
These ships are used by navies across the world for scouting and reconnaissance duties and are particularly useful in tracking down and capturing or eliminating pirates, smugglers, or small numbers of enemy ships. Depending on the crew number, these ships sometimes carry large oars that can be put out in still weather, yet another useful feature that makes the Recon worth its build cost.
