Fort of Kings: Defenses

The king's castle sits at the center of the harbor and is well fortified with thick stone walls and wide ramparts for large ballistae. The vast majority of the city is encircled by a thick perimeter wall with 3 main gated entrances. The largest of these gates leads to the thoroughfare locally known as the King's Road.

The other smaller ones lead to the residential and merchant sections of the city. Keel and Port Mile constructed their own walls and gates in about 1200 to combat the violence of the main city. The harbor was at one time defended by a vast and experienced naval force.

The Erilyn Navy was second only to the naval traditions of old Rohden in skill. Unfortunately it too fell to the wayside as ships were commandeered by pirates and given by Milara's representatives as gifts for favors received. In the days of kings, the harbor was magically mined. It is surmised that Milara may too have planted magical mines in the deep harbor but evidence has never been uncovered to support it.

The return of the king has marked an interest once again in Erilyn's naval tradition. Currently in dry-dock are three new frigates for her navy. The sponsor of these vessels is unknown at this time.
