Spine Mountain Range: History and Rumors

The Spine Mountains are young, having existed only since the Cataclysm. Time has not smoothed the rough edges of this range, and at least one volcano is active although the Mountain of Titans and Skyline Lake are now dormant. Small thermal vents sometimes exhale wisps of steam along the base, making a misty day nearly impossible to travel.

Scholars have determined that the mountains were formed when Tilmar broke off Cal'ar and the island buckled in the middle allowing lava up from the depths. Although the Spines are snow-covered and cold for much of their length, traveling inside crevices and caves will quickly warm one up. Traveling too deep will do more; the lowest reachable portions of the range are still hot. Lava streams have been reported along with temperatures that rapidly sap the strength of most creatures. With Cyclops Peak still active, it's clear this range has not decided to settle down just yet.

Throughout its recorded history, the Spines have been the refuge of those who wish for peace, seclusion, or privacy from prying eyes. Those poor victims (and the very few that chose their fate) who change form in the light of a full moon skulk around the low valleys, hunting where they can and picking off the weak, foolish and lost. These twisted creatures avoid populated areas and take shelter in narrow spaces around the mountain's base, as no city will accept them no matter how unwilling they were to become what they did.
