Swamp of Storms: History and Rumors

The swamp was already present on pre-Cataclysmic Cal'ar and ancient maps show it already being called Swamp of Storms during those days. The origins of the name cannot be ascertained but most think the swamp is named after of the many storms that hit the area. With swamps being generally useless for settlement, agriculture or other purposes associated with civilization, it never needed a proper name. However, when the Aragenites are asked for a count of the number of storms hitting this area compared to other parts of Tilmar south of the Spine Mountains, there is hardly a difference in number.

In 1397, a new theory for the name of this swamp emerged. During the events that led to the appearance of the Grove of Slumber, books and diaries written by members of an organization called the Al'Noth's Tempest were uncovered. This organization was made up of spellweavers that followed the goddess Mist and was responsible for the creation of the Dread Forest and the Swamp of Reawakening. These Mistites had made their way to Cal'ar based on a tale. The tale itself was not written out in the diaries, but according to a few lines in the diary of Irona Contu:

One region of Ca'lar is made up of a saltwater swamp at the edge of the sea. Supposedly, this is where the Lady of Storms first challenged Shindaleria the Weak for dominion over the seas. From this peninsula, Our Lady sent storms of great power towards Voltrex aiming to destroy sea elf cities at the bottom of the sea thereby reducing the number of followers of the sea elf goddess. In response, Shindaleria made the sea rise up to wash away Lady Doom, but all she managed to do is turn the peninsula into a saltwater swamp. For years, Mist sent storms from the swamp towards Voltrex until she was satisfied of the number of deaths she had caused. We have now moved to the island of Tilmar, which was formed from Cal'ar to be closer to where our goddess once roamed and to conduct our own experiments of course.

Because of these texts, some local Tilmarian cartographers believe that the Swamp of Storms is named after Mist's actions sending storms, instead of the swamp being hit by storms.
