Liwich Kingdom: Politics

While Angelica has claimed a throne, for the most part, each town makes its own rules. There are several edicts that have come down from Liwich Castle however: no slavery of any kind and a small tax to be paid to the castle quarterly. Hurm and Wymere, the largest towns, are in agreement with Angelica's rule, while several smaller outposts and a good deal of the offshore pirate bases are holding out against her. But with Monsignor Morgensen of Hurm and Lady Edaith Ambersson of Wymere supporting her, their protest means little, and it's only a matter of time before they are encouraged to get in step.

Currently, Liwich is at war with Sedera. This actually predates Angelica, but has become an official conflict since she created the throne. The war began to brew from repeated pirate raids on the port in Audira by several Hurm-based ships. Audiria built and deployed three naval ballista ships to counteract the piracy (at great cost, given the lack of suitable wood in their kingdom). One of these gun ships killed the privateer schooner Nimblewind, and two of the crewmembers on board were the youngest sons of Lady Edaith Ambersson. Her grief and anger were such that war was declared on the entire Drifting Kingdom; however, even now, this war exists more for those on the water than those on land. In Rondora Lake, the smaller villages and family groups still trade with the tea-colored nomads that ply wares along the northern desert border, albeit clandestinely.

The war has been going on unofficially since 1411 and since 1414 with Angelica's backing. There are those who travel in and out of the castle that say she's catering favor with the Lady however, and could care less about Sedera. In fact, rumors abound that she has a preference for Sederan vharlish, the strong, dry brandy native to the desert warriors.

Relations with the Boyer Kingdom are strained due to the territorial disputes around the Bay, and aside from ship trade, there is very little contact with the Succession Kingdom as the Sinister Forest and Viper's Teeth form an effective barrier to passage. Angelica keeps one man that she shares with Hurm's regent in Prantz as an intermediary and diplomat to Lord Rael and Marcheisan Anovarius has performed admirably in his task so far as they know.
