Lan's Port was founded by the pirate Edmund Lan du'Morey sometime in the 50 years prior to the Great Cataclysm. It was originally the home base for his piracy operation and the deep, easily defended harbor gave him an edge on any that could possibly want to interfere in his collection of flesh and antiquities.

When it was founded, the Wolfswood Forest still stretched to the edges of the sea cliffs, but nothing of that piece of magnificent forest remains today. The wild elves that called the forest home were either exterminated or driven back to the Erilyn borders.

Edmund began a road of stone paved from the shore toward Sun Castle when he set off to build the castle he had seen in his visions. That road is still in place and maintained to this day, though the gates of the Solami Dakma enter west facing the mountain, not north facing the sea.

The town has grown over the successive generations to be a thriving sea port for the kingdom. The harbor boasts three master ship building families as well as a dock for five of the kingdom's naval vessels. The constant presence of the navy in the harbor of course means that the mercantile trades and hospitality trades have also flourished. Their docks are home to the Fisherman's Tankard Pub and the Lucky Wench brothel.

As with any sea port rumors abound of less than honest guilds of traders, the running of contraband from other regions and the suggestion that piracy is still a prominent part of the town's economy.

It is also the point of entry into the kingdom for the refugee ships that Sun has welcomed with open arms during these dire times. The humans that chose to become new citizens of the Sun Queen are assigned to various lieges and their shires in accordance to need from internal losses from the famines that have plagued the entire world. The new Sunese spends upwards of three weeks in camps outside the city where they are indoctrinated with Sunese history, culture and behavior. Refugees that are not human are sent to slave areas and the council of the city decides their fate in accordance with Sunese laws.

The crown keeps a small palace to the east of the city on the coast for state visits and functions. Every fall, the current monarch participates in naval training operations in the straits and sounds of the Dragon Isles. As such, Sun's flagship, the Solami Dracma is anchored in the small bay off the coastal palace an stands ready for the queen's command.

Lan's Port is the one place in the realm where there is a certain degree of open tolerance for the other races and those not human can walk in relative peace in her streets but may find service at some establishments uncomfortable.
