Ulgrid Kingdom: Government

The Ulgrid Kingdom, consisting as it does of three factions, has several different governmental structures.

Dwarves
The dwarves swear fealty to a hereditary monarchy; each king and queen must produce and raise the next generation for the throne. In theory, there is very little chance that the current Coldrock line could die out and leave no successor; in reality, the childbirth rates have been dropping in this secluded community for the last 300 years, and there is some talk of needing to mingle the dwarven blood of the mountains with lowland clans. If the Coldrock family is ever unable to put an heir on the throne, the next closest relative clan would ascend.

The Ulgrid Kings rule with absolute power. Council is called from whatever dwarves are most appropriate to aid, and only when needed. While technically the Ulgrid dwarves could rise up against their king if an edict was unfair or even dangerous to the populace, so far there is no record of this. Whether or not the dwarves would share such a thing with strangers is another matter so no assumptions can be made.

The dwarves of the Ulgrid Fortress have very good relations with the “Brennies, an unspoken but maintained truce with the giants (individual dwarves or giants wandering into each other's territory and starting fights is overlooked; only a raiding party or larger of each would evoke a response). With the Grand-worshipping orcs, much is planned but due to strained resources and increased dark elf attacks, implementation has been put on hold.

Giants:
Currently under the leadership of Daughter of Air Domeneka of the Stonethrow Clan, the united tribes respect the truce with the dwarves. Domeneka has ruthlessly pulled the clans together, gathering them in caves located a ways up the central peak and away from the dwarves. She has five of the Eight Lehrr she wishes to use as council and is often away looking for suitable candidates for these important positions in the Kerrek of Grannoch. Lehrr of Water Keren is left in charge when Domeneka is gone. Keren has the closest thing yet to a friendship with a dwarf, whom she aided against a vicious tiger attack one day, and is tolerated in dwarf territory so long as she behaves and does not approach the city too closely. Relations with the orcs simply aren't; as Domeneka has adopted a policy of non-interference while the giants build up their numbers.

Orcs:
Run with an iron fist by Nro T'hahphako (ner-OH teh-HAL-FA-ko,The Dwarfbane) Jukha Marrowcruncher and his two shaman Haggagn (hag-GAG-in, assist), the Church of Grand has a base in the Brech Mountains called Khhakt'g G'horhaz'o (kah-HAK-tig geh-hor-HAZ, Grand's Supremacy). Deep in the lower reaches of one of the lesser peaks, in a valley protected from curious eyes, Jukha controls a force thousands strong. The giants avoid this area; the dwarves occasionally pick off raiding bands of orcs, but have not yet mounted a full-scale attack.
